Vision Rescue: Strengthening Families
Vision Rescue, India: Vision Rescue, under the vision and direction of Biju Thampy, have been working in India for almost 20 years. Working initially with street connected children by providing non-formal education on a bus in underserved communities with the aim to get children into formal education. Over the past six years this model has been revised to increase impact and effectiveness. Community-based Beacon Learning Centres provide early childhood education, the first year of primary school, and tutoring support, reaching more children with a good start in education and transition into formal schooling.
Vision Rescue have expanded their work around the child to include case management support for families through social work supports, referrals to health services and vocational training to bolster a family’s ability to maintain their child’s education without resorting to early marriage or pulling their child out to work due to the family’s poor economic position.
Over the next three-year period, Vision Rescue are planning to assist 5,600 families in case management. Shivaji Nagar is a community facing huge challenges, particularly with access to water and sanitation and health facilities. Here Vision Rescue connects with over 200 families through case management and related service provision, representing approximately 800 individuals.
$12,500 helps fund vital case management within the community for 6 months. All donations over $2 are tax deductible.
