Funding for Teachers Needed
M & R, GEORGIA: The Kurds are a large unreached people spread across a number of countries, including Iraq, Turkey and Iran. The families of this people group in Batumi have a lifestyle of begging and their children are not able to go to regular school. They have a generational culture of begging, so in reality, the children are victims of familial labour-trafficking.
Matt and Rebekah lead a part-time school for children and women of the Kurdish community of Batumi. Our school is a long-term intervention strategy aimed at both children and their parents. We also offer basic literacy and numeracy classes and regularly share the gospel with them through biblical story-telling.
As well as the school, Matt leads a microgreens small business based out of our Kurdish centre that employs some of the young Kurdish lads (teenagers quickly becoming men). We are in the process of developing a traineeship program to help some of these boys to become men who can work and be fathers who provide for their families.
Our school employs 5 local Christian staff part-time, who supplement the volunteers we have to run our Kurdish school ministry. These people are teachers and a cook that serve alongside us faithfully. To fund these teachers, we need to raise AU$6,000.
If you would like to cover or contribute to the cost of a specific teacher, contact us and we can provide a photo and details of the teacher. You can then also support them in prayer. We need AU$2,400 per teacher.
