Typhoon Devastated Church Rebuild
CARBY, PHILIPPINES: Typhoon “Rai” a category 5 super typhoon devastated parts of the Philippines in December, 2021. The island of Siargao was the first place to be hit. ACCI Field Workers, Christine and John Carby, along with their children, live and work in Siargao. They partner with Pastor Jun and Roseanne Espiel.
Not one building or home structure was left unaffected on their island, including the church that Pastor Jun and Roseanne Espiel lead. Taking shelter in a nearby school, they watched as everything they had worked for over 15 years was levelled in a matter of hours.
But as heartbreaking and difficult as that was, they knew that they had to rebuild God’s house bigger and stronger than before. The church congregation were able to raise a significant amount of money to start and complete 70% of the building, even though all had their own homes devastated. Right now, they need around $33,000 to finish and replace the sound equipment, electrical wiring and instruments they lost during the typhoon.
